Frequently asked questions

How is a weighted grade calculated in high school and college courses?

A weighted grade is calculated by multiplying each assignment category score by its syllabus weight percentage, summing those products, and dividing by the total weight completed to date. Categories with larger weights (such as midterms and projects) exert proportionally higher influence on your final GPA.

What formula determines what score you need on a final exam to pass or earn an A?

The formula to find your required final exam score is: Final Score Needed = [Target Grade - (Current Grade × (1 - Final Weight))] / Final Weight. If the resulting score exceeds 100%, extra credit or an elevated grading curve is required to achieve that target grade.

What happens if syllabus assignment category weights do not add up to 100%?

If completed category weights add up to less than 100%, the calculator normalizes your current standing by dividing by the sum of completed weights. If syllabus weights exceed 100%, the system flags an over-allocation warning so you can verify course grading criteria.
